 Taking your PW abroad?

If you are considering taking your PWC abroad for a holiday or short break then there are a few considerations to make prior to departure:

- Register your craft MCA Small ships register
- Obtain an International Certificate of Competence (ICC)
- Extend your insurance to cover you and your PW whilst abroad
- Proof of VAT payment
- Roadside recovery  - Does it cover you, your PW and trailer whilst abroad?

All of these documents will need to be originals, photocopies documents will not be accepted by many authorities.

In addition to the above, it would be in your best interest to look into the following:
- Launching and landing areas
- Local tides and weather
- Any hazards in the area you intend to operate
- Local byelaws
- Are PWs permitted to operate in the area?
- Do you need a permit to launch/use your craft?
- Do you need to carry proof of identity, insurance and your ICC at all times (Spain in particular is very specific about these items).

The information above can mostly be found online or by contacting the local authority in the area you intend to visit.
