About

 Datatag

Considerable proactive work has been carried out with Datatag, the identification system around which the PWP management plans resolve.

Datatag consists of a range of electronic transponders, microdots and visable ID labels (similar to a car's number plate) that contain unique identification letters and numbers. The Datatag PWC Theft Prevention kit makes your PWC easy to identify and therefore much less attractive to thieves.

All the Police have to do is call Datatag's 24hr, 7 day a week call centre with a visable ID number or scan the craft and provide a unique transponder code to establish or confirm the registered keeper within minutes.
Due to the effectiveness of Datatag, all manufacturers fit this as standard in the UK. You may find that you will not be allowed to access some slipways without having a Datatag system fitted, or being the current registered owner.
Do not forget that when you buy a second hand craft, you need to re-register with Datatag to get all the benefits the system offers.
Theft of boats and equipment has become a major problem in the UK, and the Police face an almost impossible task in tackling the marine crime wave. Security measures in the marine world are usually inadequate compared to those found on most cars, making marinas an easy target for theives. The biggest problem is that neither the Police nor prospective purchasers can tell the difference between legitamate and stolen property.
Since its introduction in the early 1990's Datatag has already slashed theft rates of Datatagged motorcycles and Personal Watercraft considerably. At the same time the recovery rates for stolen equipment have soared, and numerous convictions have been secured thanks to this system.
Datatag have a 100% prosecution rate with the CPS (Crown Prosecution Service).
Uniquely in the PWC world, Datatag also acts as the main form of registration. This allows PWC clubs, insurers and Marine Authorities (Police and Harbour Masters) to verify ownership of a craft from both visible ID numbers and the Datatag transponders (more commonly known as RFID, Radio Frequency Identification).
